Gjábakkahellir Lava TubeLocated in Thingvellir National Park, Gjábakki lava tube cave is 9000 year old and 360 meter long lava tube filled with magnificent stalactites, high ceilings and lava falls that look as spellbound. Most importantly Gjabakki cave has no man-made structures or installed lights, making it one of few accessible caves that remain intact and pristine. Use of both hands and feet is needed and some bending over/crouching is required but this tour is otherwise an easy activity suitable for the whole family.
The cave is 364 meter long (1194 feet) and was, according to official documents, discovered during a road construction in 1907. Old folklore stories do however indicate earlier dates of discovery and a different name.
