About the tour

There is something magical about Snaefellnes and it is not just the Snaefellsjokull Glacier that is both magnificent and mystical at the same time.

Simply driving around the volcanic peninsula is a guarantee for a day filled with new sights, experiences and tastes that can be tuned to everyone's capabilities and interests. Our guides are experts and Snaefellsnes is a favorite destination for us all so the following itinerary is just the framework, let your guide surprise you with the details.

We start our day early in Reykjavik and drive west through the very heart of the viking stories in Borgarnes paying our tribute to the Game of Thrones like character Egill Skallagrimsson who is without doubts one of the more colorful personalities in all of the Icelandic Sagas.

Passing by the volcanic crater Eldborg on one side and the Moon like landscape on the other, our first stop is Gerduberg, an seemingly endless wall of giant hexagonal shaped basalt columns that stand up to 14 meters tall from a flat plain.

From there we head on to Budir to replenish our energy but make selected stops on the way as we drive past seal colonies, lava fields, waterfalls and amazing gorges. Arnarstapi, Hellnar and Londrangar are next on the list with its seaside cliffs, blowholes and other unearthly rock formations all made by volcanoes, glaciers and the erosive powers of the North Atlantic ocean.

Now onto the north side of the peninsula our excursion takes us through small fishing villages that give travelers an authentic picture of the lives of the people that live and work the land and the sea. Our next must see is Mt. Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss, a waterfall and a mountain combo that have earned it status as one of the most picturesque of all in Iceland.
Closing the circle with some carefully selected stops on the way we aim at arrival in Reykjavik just before dinner time completing an eventful day on this magnificent peninsula.
