About Basecamp Iceland

Experience Iceland - Guided by local experts

Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe and our culture and infrastructure reflects that fact. Most restaurants worth going to are designed for only a dozen or so and the locals usually shy away where ever they see a bus in the driveway. The most amazing sights are often hidden, accessible only by 4x4 vehicles using back-roads and tracks that are impassable by big buses.
For Icelanders a group of 20 people is a big group although for some companies, the term 'small group' means you are sharing a bus with up to 30 other people. By comparison our average number of guests per guide is only 6. That's how we can can get you closer to both the sights and the people.

Off the beaten track

Taking our guests off the beaten track to explore the desolate Iceland is for us just one of the perks of guiding a small group. With years of experience of driving in the highlands summer and winter, we have the expertise and the tools to go where ever your heart desires .

Responsible travel

A smaller group makes less impact on both the environment and the economy. We are here to explore, learn and experience, not to change the the dynamics of Iceland's small villages or the way of life in the country side. We make special effort to support the local providers of food, drink and authentic, locally made commodity and we promote cross-cultural understanding through out our tours.

Meet the team

Founded and operated by family and friends, we at Basecamp Iceland take pride in providing a small group experience. We take the time to get that perfect picture, make new friends and enjoy the beautiful nature.  All with minimal impact on the environment.

Atli

Atli Iceland tour guide
Atli‘s specialty is to take his guests of the beaten tracks and give them a change to be a part of what makes a trip to Iceland so unique. Solitude, unspoiled wilderness and interaction with local real Icelanders.

Halla

Halla Iceland tour guide
With a masters degree in planning, Halla is the natural operation manager of Basecamp Iceland. She practically grew up in a tent in the highlands and knows by own experience all those amazing places that draw travelers from all over the world.

Kommi

Kommi Iceland tour guide
Kommi (Halla's husband) grew up in the desolate Westfjords and that partly explains his love for taking his guests away from the crowds to experience the authentic Iceland and local folklore that completes the picture of Iceland's amazing landscape.
